A World First! Pig-Human Combined Liver-Kidney Xenotransplantation Completed in Kunming

Recently, the First Affiliated Hospital of Kunming Medical University, Beijing Tsinghua Changgeng Hospital, and Yunnan Agricultural University completed the first pig-human combined liver-kidney xenotransplantation in Kunming, which is another major breakthrough in xenotransplantation clinical research!
The transplant was led by Academician Jiahong Dong of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and Professor Zhong Zeng of the First Affiliated Hospital of Kunming Medical University. During the operation, urine flowed from the transplanted kidney immediately after the blood flow was opened, and bile secreted from the transplanted liver after the blood flow was opened. The transplanted organs look red and blood flow was unobstructed after the transplantation. This combined liver-kidney xenotransplantation study successfully confirmed the feasibility of gene-edited porcine organs in combined human organ transplantation, and laid an important foundation for in-depth research and improvement of xenotransplantation.
