New Technology from Professor Zhao Gang's Team of Yinfeng Special Committee is Here! Low-Temperature Preservation Success Rate Expected to Improve

Release time:

2024-09-12

Recently, the Yinfeng Low-temperature Medicine Special Committee head, Professor Zhao Gang from the University of Science and Technology of China, and his team successfully developed a super-powerful low-temperature protection technology, specifically designed to protect mouse oocytes. What’s impressive about this technology? It can greatly improve the success rate of preserving oocytes at ultra-low temperatures, just like putting a highly protective and insulating "suit" on the oocytes.

For women who need to delay their fertility plans due to cancer treatment or other reasons, this is great news. Treatments like radiotherapy and chemotherapy can easily damage the ovaries, affecting the quality of the oocytes, and hence, fertility. But now, with the new technology from Professor Zhao Gang's team, women can face these challenges with more confidence.

Oocytes are particularly delicate; they have a large surface area and high water content, making them highly susceptible to freezing and osmotic pressure changes. Previous protection methods, though somewhat effective, were not good enough. Therefore, Zhao Gang's team came up with a new idea: they created a special nanocomposite material that acts like a tiny "ice shield." It prevents ice crystal formation and quickly melts any formed ice crystals, thus ensuring the safe preservation of oocytes at low temperatures.

Experimental results show that oocytes protected with this new material are not only well-preserved but also have a strong ability to develop into embryos later on. Moreover, the baby mice born from these oocytes are just as lively and adorable as healthy ones, with no differences!

The research by Professor Zhao Gang's team not only provides a new solution for preserving female fertility but also points the way to future clinical applications. This is truly a wonderful gift that science and technology have brought us!
