Yinfeng Institute’s Ovarian Tissue Cryopreservation Technology Wins Shandong Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Science and Technology Award

Release time:

2025-05-27

Recently, the "Novel Technology for Ultra-Low Temperature Cryopreservation, Activation, and Transplantation of Human Ovarian Tissue," developed through a collaborative effort between Shandong Yinfeng Life Science Research Institute and Beijing University of Chinese Medicine Shenzhen Hospital, has been awarded the 2025 Shandong Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Science and Technology Award. This groundbreaking technology pioneers a new pathway for female fertility preservation, marking a significant leap in China’s interdisciplinary advancements in reproductive medicine and cryobiology.

The research team innovatively combined in vitro activation of primordial follicles (IVA) with cytokine extraction from autologous venous blood (PFC) to establish a safe and effective method for activating dormant follicles. This breakthrough offers personalized treatment for patients with premature ovarian insufficiency (POI) and poor ovarian response (POR), achieving the world’s first successful case of natural pregnancy in a patient with ovarian failure.

The team’s IVA technology involves extracting a small piece of ovarian cortical tissue via laparoscopic surgery, followed by low-temperature activation in vitro and subsequent in situ transplantation within approximately one hour. This process transforms atrophied ovarian tissue into a softer, rejuvenated state. Postoperative evaluations demonstrated improvements in ovarian volume, follicle count, ovarian artery blood flow, and normalized hormone levels. The technology also provides fertility preservation options for cancer patients.

This achievement, born from the ingenuity of Chinese scientists, not only brings new hope to families but also highlights China’s innovative prowess in life sciences and cryomedicine. Where cutting-edge technology meets the miracle of life, this breakthrough stands as a national milestone in humanity’s fight against fertility challenges.

Building on this recognition, Yinfeng’s cryomedicine team will collaborate with research institutions to accelerate the development of a comprehensive "cryopreservation-rewarming-transplantation" technological ecosystem, advancing the application of cryogenic technologies for human health.

Background: Launched in 2024 by the Shandong Association of Refrigeration, the Shandong Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Science and Technology Award honors individuals and organizations for innovative contributions to refrigeration and air conditioning technologies, including pioneering research, technological development, and the promotion of scientific achievements. The award has played a vital role in advancing technological progress and innovation within the province’s refrigeration and air conditioning industry.
