Professor Zhao Gang, Director of the Yinfeng Cryomedicine Expert Committee, Selected for the 2024 Global Top 0.05% Scholars List

Release time:

2025-05-09

The international academic platform ScholarGPS recently announced its global lists of Highly Ranked Scholars - Lifetime and Highly Ranked Scholars - Prior 5 Years, recognizing the top 0.05% of scholars across various disciplines. Among the selected Chinese scholars are national-level talents, leading figures in specialized fields, and seasoned academics dedicated to long-term research.

Professor Zhao Gang, a professor at the University of Science and Technology of China, visiting professor at the University of Washington (USA), executive director of the International Society for Cryobiology, expert for the Pioneer Projects of the National Frontier Science Bureau, and Director of the Yinfeng Cryomedicine Expert Committee, has been ranked among the global top 0.05% scholars in the field of cryopreservation.

ScholarGPS, a renowned academic analytics platform, evaluates top-tier scholars based on rigorous quantitative metrics derived from over 50 million scholar profiles and 20 million academic publications. Professor Zhao’s enduring focus on cryopreservation research has yielded groundbreaking advancements, providing substantial academic and technical support for Yinfeng’s studies on cryopreservation and rewarming technologies for tissues and organs.

Cryopreservation holds significant value in biomedicine, agriculture, biodiversity conservation, and beyond. Only four scholars in this field were included in the 2024 lists, all recognized for their exceptional contributions.

Professor Yu Boming remarked in his blog:
“This achievement reflects that persistent dedication, innovation, and ‘decades of sharpening one arrow’ in a scientific field can earn a place in the lifetime ranking—no application required. If early research (e.g., from 20 years ago) continues to garner high citations, it signals leadership in the field, naturally leading to inclusion in the lifetime list. As for the ‘Prior 5 Years’ ranking, it highlights emerging scholars who have rapidly gained prominence. If their work sustains high impact and citations over the next two decades, they too may join the lifetime list as trailblazers.”

Professor Zhao Gang stated:“We will continue advancing cryopreservation research, exploring novel technologies and methodologies to drive progress in both scientific inquiry and practical applications.”
